Who is Unpublished Guy? I am not a published fiction writer (obviously), maybe not even a writer with any sort of real skill. Not in this universe anyway.
My name is Kurt. I like to think that in another quantum reality, numerous, ill‑conceived movies are being based on my short stories and novellas.
What is the point of this website? In the spirit of postmodern writing and art, it’s up to you—point or no point, what the point is if there is a point, the meaning of the word is.
How is this site different from other “wanna be a writer” sites? Anyone that quickly reviews the latest copy of the Writer’s Market, Poet’s Market, or Novel & Short Story Market can see that an awful large number of stories are submitted to various publications but few are accepted. If you are one of those that hasn’t published, it might make sense to seek out web sites and blogs where those that have published impart their wisdom to the unpublished masses.
This isn’t one of those sites.
After several years of writing short stories and submitting short stories, I remain unpublished. After hibernating for over five years, I have just recently begun writing again with the intent to publish. If I knew something that would make a difference in my writing or my approach, I would have published by now.
If you feel you can get an emotional uplift by empathizing with an unpublished comrade or you are the sort that slows down to get a good view of a car accident, then this site may be what you are looking for.
How often is the site updated? Sporadically, with postings somewhere between daily and annually.
Why should anyone listen to you? What fiction have you published lately? I’m not sure that anyone should listen to me. I haven’t published any fiction.
What are your fiction reading and writing preferences? If you checked off all the fiction that I’ve read against a contemporary literature list, I would probably get a failing grade. I have, however, read and enjoyed William Gass, John Gardner, Italo Calvino, and Max Frisch. Last few years, I have been reading more nonfiction that fiction. I did read a Kazuo Ishiguro novel in the last year, and I liked it enough to want to read more. My fiction writing has tended to be postmodern or experimental. I have a hard time writing a straight story.
How was the site designed? I bought an off-the-shelf skin for DotNetNuke. I have been none to do some design at some of the technology companies that I’ve worked for, but my web design skills are mediocre at best. I have enough trouble finding time to write. I am not going to spend too much time on the design of this web site.
This site isn’t showing properly in my browser. I am most dreadfully sorry to hear that.
How do I contact you? First, let me say that I am quite flattered that you would want to. Second, you can submit questions or suggestions about unpublishedguy.com by clicking here.
Are you hiring? What a strange question to ask. I should be asking you that. In fact, if you are hiring for
a CMO or Director of Marketing a marketing or product manager marketing specialistmarketing assistant, please
tell me all about it.
