Character Sketch – Yog Soggoth Jr, Perceiver of the Mundane

Yog-Soggoth Jr is a native of the Vortex dimension. The dimension is home to Yog’s tribe of Old Ones, who devour the fried skin of their enemies, cooked the way Kassigtha used to make. While in the Human dimension he prefers a diet of zombie brains and root beer.

Although the son of a major Elder, Yog Jr choose to leave his dimension out of curiousity to see more of the multiverse and to experience and explore the Orangutan dimension. At the opening of the novel, Gerald and Yog Jr are sharing a motel room for the first time. The room has only one bed, albeit king sized. Much to Gerald’s consternation, he discovers that Yog sleeps in the nude, allowing all of his tentacles and other hyperdimensional, hermaphroditic organs to hang out.

Yog is an adolescent Old One, the size of a barn and decorated with skulls and entrails. He is an excellent tailor who helps one character escape a sticky situation by fashioning a disguise out of Tom Cruise’s skin.

His special ability has helped Gerald crack several cases in the past. In the case of the House on Haunted Hill of No Colour, Yog Jr looked into the soul of the postal worker and saw a preference for crunchy peanut butter. In the case of the 5 Pixies, Yog stripped away the prime suspects disguise to reveal the muscle and innards beneath. Most notably, he uncovered a werewolf’s passion for Michelangelo Antonioni movies.

Ultimately Yog jr is responsible for saving Gerald’s life. After Schlafen Ahab’s motel burns to the ground, Gerald survives because he is running across the street to get ice for Yog’s root beer. The motel’s ice machine was broken.
